Part of the gold award scheme is throwing a rescue rope 10 metres to within 1 meter of a struggling person. While not the best indoor activity, it was a good opportunity for scouts to try their hand at throwing a rope. We gave it a go last Monday night.
We set up two types of throwing ropes: a open coil rope, and an improvised rope bag. Rope bags tend to be a more precise throw but are very slow to re-throw do to the time it takes to repackage them. Open coil throws tend to be more imprecise, but the are very fast to re-throw .
Much of the fun was in dragging the rescued scout across the floor to “safety.” Apologies if your scouts shirts need washing an ironing.
Even Lulu the Kelburn Scout Group mascot got into the action.
